Countries in Focus: Guyana

The International Students’ Association (ISA) and the International Forestry Students’ Association (IFSA) present

Guyana is a small country in South America, one of the few Caribbean countries that is not an island, and the only South American country whose official language is English.

MOVIE NIGHT: Friday, March 1st, 2013 at the Global Lounge (2205 Marine Drive)

LOST LAND OF THE JAGUAR –  Guyana is known for its immense waterfalls, rainforests, and diverse wildlife, including the jaguar. Join us in this BBC nature documentary for an incredible journey through the Amazonian rainforest, “land of giants”, inhabited by the anaconda, the world’s largest tarantula and giant otters.

Other clips from other movies and documentaries will be shown as well.

THE “COUNTRIES IN FOCUS” SERIES showcases a specific country every month. We shine the spotlight particularly on countries that we feel are inadequately represented at this campus and that students have shown an interest in. For each country, we organize social and academic activities to highlight areas that range from food and music to research and community involvement opportunities. Through this, we strive to spark conversations and enhance students’ understanding of countries that are usually not easy to learn about at UBC.
