🎙️ Speaker: Prof. Gary Bull
Meet Prof. Gary Bull, a UBC expert who specializes in carbon accounting, finance, and logistics along the supply chain. He has collaborated with organizations like WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol, Sustainable Biomass Program, Ostrom Climate, and private logistics tech firms. His extensive work includes advising the State Forest Administration of China, Plan Vivo, indigenous groups, and providing consultancy for the World Bank and UN FAO on carbon integration in value chains. Prof. Bull’s research covers poverty and carbon impacts, forest carbon institutions, and modeling for carbon integration in forest management. Additionally, his future focus is on forest restoration in Brazil funded through carbon credits.
🎙️ Speaker: Prof. Jeff Sayer
Join us for an inspiring session with Prof. Jeff Sayer, an ecologist who has worked extensively on the nexus of people and nature in African savannas, as well as in Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Thailand. He initiated the Global Forest Conservation Programme for IUCN in 1983 and served as the founding Director General of CIFOR in 1993, promoting an interdisciplinary, ecosystem-based approach to sustainable forest management. Prof. Sayer’s career also includes roles with the World Bank, WWF International, and teaching positions at various universities. His overarching theme has been reconciling the needs of impoverished local communities with global environmental conservation, emphasizing the importance of addressing extreme poverty for sustainable forest management.
