About IFSA-UBC

IFSA, an acronym for the International Forestry Students’ Association, stands as a globally recognized, non-political, non-religious, and non-profit organization. Comprising 141 Ordinary Members representing 46 countries, IFSA is a collective of passionate individuals dedicated to the promotion of sustainable forestry, environmental consciousness, and responsible stewardship of our planet’s natural resources.

Established in 2011, IFSA-UBC is a distinguished Local Committee, operating under the IFSA umbrella. Our commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and nurturing future leaders in forestry and conservation makes us a notable presence within the academic and environmental communities.

Collaborative Endeavors

IFSA-UBC prides itself on productive partnerships with influential entities in the fields of forestry and environmental research. Our affiliations include organizations like FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), EFI (European Forest Institute), CIFOR (Center for International Forestry Research), IUFRO (International Union of Forest Research Organizations), UN (United Nations), and IFISO (International Forestry Students’ Organizations). These collaborations provide a platform for interdisciplinary discussions, research initiatives, and the implementation of meaningful projects.

Diverse Activities

Our spectrum of activities at the local (UBC) level encompasses both indoor and outdoor experiences. We host academic seminars, panel discussions, and speech competitions, offering students a platform to exchange ideas and engage in thought-provoking discourse. For those seeking a deeper connection with nature, our tree walking and forest therapy sessions provide opportunities for reflection and rejuvenation amidst British Columbia’s lush landscapes.

Global Engagement

IFSA-UBC extends its reach beyond campus boundaries, participating in internationally renowned events and initiatives. Notable events include the International Forestry Students Symposium (IFSS 2018) in Mexico, our presence at COP 23 in Bonn, Germany, and the West Coast Meet-up on Galiano Island. Our Advisory Board comprises esteemed experts in forestry, including Dr. Gary Bull, Dr. Sarah Gergel, Dr. Fernanda Tomaselli, Patrick Duffy, Dr. Terry Sunderland, Dr. John Innes, Dr. Peter Wood, and Dr. Jeff Sayer, who guide and inspire our endeavors.

Together, let’s make a meaningful impact on the world of forestry and conservation.
