Q1. For you, what makes IFSA-UBC different?

YC: IFSA-UBC is a vibrant community that offers an excellent communication platform for forestry students, professors, and peers who share an interest in nature, forestry, global warming, and related topics.

Q2: Can you share a personal challenge you’ve faced and how you overcame it?

YC: Adapting to studying abroad presents a significant challenge for me. As a program student from China, I dedicated three years to studying in my home country and am now embarking on a two-year journey at UBC before graduation. This experience not only marks my first exposure to Western culture but also my initial visit to Vancouver. To overcome this challenge, I’ve decided to focus on my studies and actively cultivate friendships at UBC, believing that this approach will facilitate a faster and smoother adaptation process.

Q3: How do you stay motivated in your personal life?

YC: Staying motivated in both my studies and daily life is not very hard for me because the subjects I’m learning genuinely interest me. Furthermore, my major has introduced me to mapping and analysis software like ArcGIS, helping me define my future career direction. With a clear goal in mind, I find that I can lead a more motivated and purposeful life.

Q4: Can you share a personal achievement that you’re particularly proud of?

YC: I consider my most significant achievement to be living independently overseas without my parents. While in China, I could always rely on the selfless support of my parents when facing challenging situations. However, in Canada, the physical distance and the absence of any familiar friends forced me to truly stand on my own and navigate life independently.

Q5: What hobbies or interests do you have?

YC: I have diverse interests that encompass traveling, singing, reading, and watching movies, all of which I consider hobbies. I am open to trying new things, so if you have any recommendations or experiences you’d like to share, I’m eager to hear about them.

Q6: How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance?

YC: Discovering a fulfilling hobby is crucial. Personally, I engage in yoga at least once a week, finding profound relaxation through stretching and breathing exercises.
